Wall paintings

These street-side paintings, representing someone's time, effort and talent, go widely unnoticed. Such is life in our city of Chennai, where no one seems to have time to pause and watch.

S for Swim pool

Life in our apartments complex in OMR, Chennai, allows for family time at the clubhouse pool even on weekday mornings. It is summer break for the children, but father has a full day's work ahead at office. Such enviable work-life balance is hard to get in most places.

Sniffer dogs

Neighbourhood dogs sniff around for food outside our apartments complex. We can see they are wasting time scavenging, while the yellow trays hold milk packets left by the delivery delivery boy.. Which, I suppose, is what sorts out dogs from men. Dogs don't steal.

Our Apartment complex

A massive signboard has come up on top end of our 12-floor apartment complex in Chennai. We are among the first few residents who have moved in at Mantri Synergy, a nine-block residential complex. Work is still in progress and it would two to three months for all 700 odd families to move in.

Bazar traffic

Experts have it that on city roads in India you can find 18 different modes of transport competing for space. I can count five, not including the car in which I was traveling when I took this shot in Chennai.

Swimpool on the terrace

Swim-pool on top of an eight-floored residential complex on Chennai's Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR), a 30-km stretch that has come to be known as the IT Corridor. Almost every global Information Technology company has an office located there. Nearly 50 residential projects are coming up on the OMR stretch.

Urbanizing villages

View from Floor 9 of a residential complex at Padur village, near Chennai. Information Technology companies that mushroomed in suburban Chennai over the past decade and more, have given rise to extensive construction activity in rural areas around metropolitan Chennai.
Perungudi, Sholinganallur, Siruseri, Padur, Kelambakkam are the new Chennai suburbs with high-rise residential buildings and shopping malls. Till a decade ago they were villages on road to Mahabalipuram .Over 50 residential projects are coming up along OMR, a 30-km six-lane stretch that is called the IT Corridor.
