A Danish cannon

The rusted cannon head, dating back to 1600s, was part of the protective placement around a Danish Fort at Tharangambadi in southern India. The fort, now housing a museum,and its surroundings that was once a Danish settlement,is being restored by Danish Tranquebar Association.

S for Srirangapatna

Along the historic Karnataka town, Srirangapatna, runs a stone-studded Cauvery. You see on this stretch of the river more boulders than water.The photo was taken from a Bangalore-Mysore railway train while crossing the river bridge close to Srirangapatna.

Temple wall

The red & white stripes on the wall is the trade mark of most temples in southern India. This one is in Thirukkadyur, Tamilnadu.

Nothing special

I am sure there are scenic settings such as this almost everywhere, but we tend to look for something special, different, and out of the ordinary when we photograph. This shot, taken at karanji Lake, Mysore, celebrates the ordinary.

P for paddy

Farmer Ghani Khan grows 100 plus varieties of paddy (for seed bank) and has on his 20 acre farm over 100 odd mango trees. Each tree produces a mango variety with distinctly different taste. The ageing trees came with the ancestral land in Mandya, Karnataka , that that was a gift from Tipu Sultan to a Ghani Khan's ancestor who had served in Tipu's army.

Oars lined up at the boat stand of Karanji Lake, a tourist attraction in Mysore.

Lakeview

From their condition one can see these boats are not used much. In fact, Kukkrehalli Lake isn't a favourite for boating enthusiasts. The Mysore University which maintains the lake uses it for training NCC cadets.

Lakeside photowalk

We were in a group of photo enthusiasts, out on a group walk at Karanji Lake, Mysore. We had the place, all to ourselves, thanks to the efforts of the Photowalk lead Kiran Ravikumar. He arranged with the lake authorities to have our visit scheduled for 7 a m, a couple of hours before the gated Karanji opened for others.

At Karanji Lake, Mysore. Karnataka forest dept. raised the entry fee recently, making picnicking there a little more pricey.
