T for thatched roof

Thatched roof provides shelter to fishermen working,  or just lounging, on the beach under mid-day sun. When temperature gets close to 100 F (which is normal in Chennai nowadays), it can get unbearably hot on the waterfront at Kovalam,  a fishermen's hamlet.

S for Swim pool

Life in our apartments complex in OMR, Chennai, allows for family time at the clubhouse pool even on weekday mornings. It is summer break for the children, but father has a full day's work ahead at office. Such enviable work-life balance is hard to get in most places.

S for Srirangapatna

Along the historic Karnataka town, Srirangapatna, runs a stone-studded Cauvery. You see on this stretch of the river more boulders than water. The photo was taken from a Bangalore-Mysore railway train while crossing the river bridge close to Srirangapatna.

A quiet little town

P for paddy

Farmer Ghani Khan grows 100 plus varieties of paddy (for seed bank) and has on his 20 acre farm over 100 odd mango trees. Each tree produces a mango variety with distinctly different taste. The ageing trees came with the ancestral land in Mandya, Karnataka , that that was a gift from Tipu Sultan to a Ghani Khan's ancestor who had served in Tipu's army.

Lakeview

From their condition one can see these boats are not used much. In fact, Kukkrehalli Lake isn't a favourite for boating enthusiasts. The Mysore University which maintains the lake uses it for training NCC cadets.

J for joy

A picture of joy at Monterey Bay Aquarium. The boy is grandson Sidharth. I know this is bit of a brag. I could have as well let this post wordless. For who needs words when the picture can speak, so joyfully.

G for green

There is no dearth of greenery in Coonoor, but cactus isn't the kind of green that is associated with a hill resort. I found this growth on the Chettinad House near Velan Ritz Hotel.
