Wayside stall

Fried-in-oil eats, exposed to dust raised by passing vehicles,  may well be tasty. But then, not all of us as given to eating out,  not this style. This tea and pakora stall on roadside at Burliyar, a Nilgiris hillside hamlet, caters to bus passengers. Buses on Mettupalayam-Coonoor-Ooty route halt at Burliyar, where Tamil Nadu state transport employees union runs a co-op canteen close to the bus stand. This stall,  closer to public conveniences,  relies on bus passengers spilling over from the co-op canteen.

Pavement sales

I couldn't quite figure out what it was on the pavement, other than that it was made out of bamboo. Pavement vendors set up shop around Devaraja Market before shopping hours at Devaraja Urs Road in Mysore.

Wayside station

Maddur, a midway railway station on the Bangalore-Mysore line. Maddur is known for its tasty vada, a snack sold by traveling vendors on Mysore-Bangalore trains. Those looking for a spot of yellow in this shot will find it on the cement slab under the signboard.

Blue train

A strip of yellow on the blue train makes it a two-in-one shot - my post for Mellow Yellow and Blue Monday. Mandya is a wayside town, and a prime rail halt on the Bangalore-Mysore route. Known for paddy, sugarcane and its aggressive farming lobby, Mandya thrives on Cauvery water flowing through a well-knit irrigation canal system.

Garland of lemon

Devotees offer lemon garlands to the deity at the Nimishamba temple in Srirangapatna near Mysore. Make-shift shops selling flowers/garlands and other puja offerings line the entrance to the shrine, located on the Cauvery river bank.

Mysore memories

It has been over two weeks since we shifted base to Chennai, from Mysore. And my wife and I haven't yet got used to a life without Mysore, where we had spent over six years. Besides, I still retain in my computer a fair collection of Mysore photos. This one is a quiet image of an otherwise busy traffic junction on Devaraja Urs Rd. Took this photo before business hours.

The shutter is blue

Dedicated Blue Monday bloggers may find their preferred colour taking a backseat here. Eye-stealer in the shot is coloured yellow. Took this photo at K R Circle during the last Dasara, an annual festival of which we in Mysore make a big deal. The festival stretches for 10 days during which the entire city is lit up. There are daily concerts held on the Palace grounds. A colourful procession through the town marks the end of Dasara festival.

Backyard bonfire

Took this shot from third-floor window of our apartments complex in Mysore. We had a power shutdown, and all that could be seen in the darkness outside was this bonfire of a heap of dry leaves.

Bazar traffic

Experts have it that on city roads in India you can find 18 different modes of transport competing for space. I can count five, not including the car in which I was traveling when I took this shot in Chennai.

Swing in the living room

Living room of my blogger friend in Ooty. Kalyani whose blog posts, as distinct in substance and style as her living room, chose not to blog nearly 4 months back - 'I don't want to 'continue to ruminate so much and publicly on me and mine'.
Wish she has a change of mind.

Yellow 'jutka'

The horse-drawn two-wheeler, we call it 'jutka'(meaning, a jolter), was a popular mode of public transport a couple of decades back. It is now considered a tourist attraction. The cart-driver taking a nap on a sidewalk, off JLB Road in Mysore.
