Orange plus

I can't figure out the connection between this signboard and the used cars lot it advertises. But then the colours and the design are so appealing that anyone who casts his/her eyes on this board is likely to get curious about what this is all about. And then, on finding out, wonder what used cars have to do with orange. Incidentally, this used cars lot ruins the look of our apartments block, viewed from Ramavilas Road, Mysore.

News stand

A make-shift news stand at our bus station in Mysore. The news-vendor is generous enough to let the bus crew have a look-in at the morning papers between trips.

Bazar traffic

Experts have it that on city roads in India you can find 18 different modes of transport competing for space. I can count five, not including the car in which I was traveling when I took this shot in Chennai.

Shadow shot

We can count on shade any time of the day in my tree-lined neighbourhood on Ramavilas Rd., Mysore. The morning shadow with a receding mist is particularly inviting.

Caged

You wouldn't feel comfortable if such animal is held anywhere other than in a cage. The tiger here, they said, had seen action in Hollywood movies. This place we went to is a ranch near Salinas CA (Steinbeck country). The ranch has bed/breakfast accommodation for animal lover tourists , and a spacious enclosures for animals and birds trained to face the camera and hired for filming to movie/TV producers.

Village pond

Safe drinking water is an issue in many villages. For the community pond is used for bathing , washing clothes and livestock. Gone are the days when the village pond was considered safe enough for drinking. Took this shot at Thirukadiyur in Tamilnadu.

Amateur and an athlete

I am an amateur, my camera is basic, and I attempted an action shot. I couldn't click fast enough as she was running towards us; and I was taken unaware as she sprinted past me on her home run. This, then, was the best of the shots I could get. Photo taken on Radhakrishnan Ave., Mysore.

Temple tank

Every other temple in southern India has a tank to go with it. The idea was to facilitate worshipers to wash their feet or bathe before entering the place of worship. In many places, however, the temple tanks are poorly maintained. This one belongs to Mayurnathar Temple at Myladuthurai, Tamilnadu.

'Puja' time

It is puja time at Ramavilas Road Ramar temple,to which my wife is a visitor every morning. This photograph is credited to her. Taken in by pujari Gururaj's dedication, she sought permission to photograph him while offering prayers to Hanuman. Swing in the living room

Living room of my blogger friend in Ooty. Kalyani whose blog posts, as distinct in substance and style as her living room, chose not to blog nearly 4 months back - 'I don't want to 'continue to ruminate so much and publicly on me and mine'.
Wish she has a change of mind.

Supermoon in Mysore

No great shots, but the best I could get, with my camera and photo-skills (both basic). But then this was the night (March 19), when they say the moon was 15 percent larger in size, and 30 percent brighter.Has to do with distance between the earth and the moon last night. Pundits say she hasn't been this close to us since 1992; wouldn't be so close any other night, for the next 18 years. From my world in Mysore, I reached out the Supermoon as close I could manage - the terrace of our three-storey apartment block in Mysore.

Lakeside photowalk

We were in a group of photo enthusiasts, out on a group walk at Karanji Lake, Mysore. We had the place, all to ourselves, thanks to the efforts of the Photowalk lead Kiran Ravikumar. He arranged with the lake authorities to have our visit scheduled for 7 a m, a couple of hours before the gated Karanji opened for others.

Gods on sale

Well,it is mostly one god - Ganesha - because this photo relates to Ganesh Chaturthi, the birthday of the elephant-faced god. When there was a surge in demand for Ganesh idols. These ones were displayed on pavement in a Mysore market street, Kalidasa Rs., I guess. The only other God on show is Shiva, Ganesha's father. Ganesh Chaturthi 2011 comes on Sept.1

Sunrise over Mysore

My Sunday morning mood made me a bit too lazy to work on four different photo posts. So thought of this sunrise shot that can do for Straight out of the Camera, Scenic Sunday, Shadow Shot and Camera Critters (you would sight a bird high up in the sky, if you look for it closely).

G for green

There is no dearth of greenery in Coonoor, but cactus isn't the kind of green that is associated with a hill resort. I found this growth on the Chettinad House near Velan Ritz Hotel.
