Ghani Khan's farm

A three-in-one shot showing  paddy, cane and mango growing in a farm near Mysore belonging to Ghani Khan. One of his forefather who served in Tipu Sultan's army got this land as Sultan's gift. The mango tree in the picture, says the farm owner, dates back to Tipu's days. The farm he inherited has scores of varied varieties of mango.

Mysore Memories

Going through 'My Pictures' stored in our computer I happened by this one.I don't recall when, and why I took this picture of the oval athletics ground near Crawford Hall, Mysore. Now that I no longer live in Mysore the photo gains nostalgic value. This, then, is my this week's entry for Scenic Sunday and SOOC.

Crossing the lines

It's not safe, but it is the easy way, a short cut, to move from one platform to another. Such is the scene at a wayside station on the rail line between Bangalore and Mysore.

A temple priest

A scene outside Vontikoppal Venkateswara Temple in Mysore. A priest steps out after mid-day ritual. The temple provides a landmark to one of the city's major road-crossings.

Breakfast time

They hang out for breakfast in front of a bakery in Mysore. This early morning scene is played out daily as Raghavendra Bakery on Devaraja Urs Road opens for business. The crows wait for crumbs tossed out at them as the bakery staff clean the shelves for holding freshly made bread and cake, and other eats.

Green water

The green cover over this water patch at Mysore zoo reflects utter neglect by those responsible for its upkeep.

Marketplace

The sturdy beast pulling a cartload of materials is poised to cross the road at T Narsipura. We happened by this marketplace on way to Somanathpura in Karnataka.

Mysore tonga

Cart-driver and his horse find welcome relief in the shade from the punishing heat during summer. Horse-drawn two-wheeler, called 'tonga', is a vanishing mode of transport on Mysore streets.

Shadow on a mud patch

Took this frame for the shadow on a mud patch in our Mysore neighbourhood that led us up a garden path (in a literal , not literary, sense)

Street scene

This could be a scene from any suburb. But there is something special about this street in Sarawathipuram, Mysore, for Friends of Roadside Trees. The row of trees you see on the right were planted a decade back by Mr Gurukar, a tree-lover credited with planting nearly 1,000 trees in the city.

Shadow shot

We can count on shade any time of the day in my tree-lined neighbourhood on Ramavilas Rd., Mysore. The morning shadow with a receding mist is particularly inviting.

Girls and goats

Unrushed pace of life at a small town in Tamilnadu, Thirukkadaiyur. The girls on way to school wouldn't want to disturb the goats.

Sunrise over Mysore

My Sunday morning mood made me a bit too lazy to work on four different photo posts. So thought of this sunrise shot that can do for Straight out of the Camera, Scenic Sunday, Shadow Shot and Camera Critters (you would sight a bird high up in the sky, if you look for it closely).

The mop up

My previous post was on the watery race track after a sharp shower. It is now the mop up time, when the grounds staff at the Mysore University move in to ready the track for an athletic meet.

Scenic Sunday : Revisit

Ash trail between rows of trees is in stark contrast to my 'fallen leaves' post last week. Burning the dry leaves, besides posing fire threat to the trees around, is a lazy option. Surely, the management of the Maharaja's College campus needs no guidance on disposal of such waste.
Following up on my last week's post for Scenic Sunday.

Chamundi village

A quiet hamlet, housing the priests and other staff of Chamundi Hill temple, Mysore.
May not be much of a scenic shot, in the traditional sense. For better ones by other bloggers click Scenic Sunday.
